MOON MINING COLONY
CONCEPT BRIEF
A moon base inspired by honey pot ant society, and NASA technology.
Honey pot ants have a specialized worker who act as food storage for the Colony. Storing large amounts of nectar in their abdomen. I thought this adaptation very interesting and would make a good challenge to translate into something mechanical and sci-fi. Thinking about equivalents I settling on the idea of a Moon mining colony using robots to transport ice water from the mines back to the base. Water in this scenario is equivalent to the honey pot ant nectar, a vital resource for humans to survive. And the Base Metaphorically acts as a queen to the robots. Ants bringing food back to their colony.

WATER DRONE
CONCEPT BRIEF
A Robot designed around the transportation of Ice water on rough terrain.
For the design of the robot I wanted to maintain the unique ability of honeypot Ant in a mechanical form. As a result I settled on the idea of having the water stored in a inflatable sack, with straps keeping it in place. Having the straps create budging segments to emphasize the fullness and to create a similar visual to honeypot ant flesh stretching.
As for the body I wanted to evoke an ant shape, while also not being to direct. The reason being I still want this machine feel functional, and being to faithful may look flimsy, ant body structure works because of their size.
Lastly for the legs I looked to Boston dynamics Big Dog for reference. This machine operates similar to what I'm going for navigating harsh terrain carrying equipment. And what really stood out me was the protective fabric, preventing the elements from affecting the sensitive joints. Its not something I see in a lot of robot designs, so I thought it be really cool element to incorporate that also makes sense.
